Hi, this might sound like a silly question but when you're doing illustrations like 'typecream cones' do you draw them out on paper first and scan them in and edit them or do you draw them directly on the computer?

A

Hello there! The question isn’t silly at all. Typecream Cones was actually a silkscreen print. That one started as vector art in Adobe Illustrator and was burned into a screen and printed.

The majority of the work I do for this blog is drawn in pencil, inked, and then scanned into the computer for touch ups and coloring. Here’s one of my sketches pre-computer:

Anyways, hope that helped!

Why do things always seem easier than they actually are? This week’s guest post comes from Michigan-based illustrator Neil Tasker.
